Wayne Flemming, also known as Smokey
Wayne Flemming, known by most as “Smokey” is originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia has been part of the Colorado Avalanche organization for close to 25 years. Smokey originally joined the Avalanche with the Cornwall Aces (AHL) in 1995-96, he then became the assistant equipment manager with the Avs for the 1996-97 season.
Promoted to head equipment manager for the 1999-2000 season, Smokey was responsible for all equipment repair, maintenance, logistics, and day-to-day dressing room operations at the Pepsi Center. He also oversaw the purchase, inventory, and the eventual retail of all team game and game-used equipment and materials.
Before joining the Avalanche Smokey worked in the Winnipeg Jets organization with the Moncton Hawks (AHL) for seven seasons.
Smokey has worked with teams for over a thousand games, ensuring players’ equipment and skates are in the best condition possible. He is also a member of the Society of Professional Hockey Equipment Managers and the Athletic Equipment Managers Association, and a nationally registered EMT-IV.
